Storage capacity for the next generation 7200 RPM hard drives has reached up to 750 GB recently. These hard drives are also presenting a consistent interface to allow comfy replacement in host systems. Popular hard drive vendors such as Seagate, Samsung and Western Digital have already made these drives available for your machines.
Previously, SSD has no doubt done pretty well especially with respect to speed, performance and low power consumption. However, despite all these qualities, SSD is still not a priority when it comes to disk capacity and cost. Geeks may have some passion for them but average consumers seem much comfortable with old-time traditional hard drives. In other words, people usually don’t go for an upgrade when they have a system efficiently addressing all their needs.
Additionally, paying $200 amount for a low capacity SSD sounds alarming to most of the consumers. But buying a low performance conventional hard drive would not be a wise decision either. Comparatively, the 750 GB Momentus 7200.5 for $100, Samsung Spinpoint MP4 640 GB for $80, and WD Scorpio Black 500 GB for $70-80 are probably the best ways out of this hourglass-like situation.
