Fatal Exception Error

When a program crashes, it means that some problem has occurred while the program was being executed. This is acknowledged by the operating system as a critical problem and it closes down the aberrant application or program.

When this happens the operating system send a message saying “fatal exception error” and display some numbers which may not make sense to you but are of importance to the programmer. At this time the operating system besides shutting down the application, might also shut down its own operating system.

Registry Booster 2010An application program comprises of several layers of code. Most of the operating systems support exceptions and their handling. These exceptions allow the various layers to communicate issues to each other. When an exception occurs, each of these layers passes on the exception upwards. One of these layers has to capture the exception and handle it.

Once the exception reaches the topmost layer and is still not dealt with, the operation system recognizes it as an “un-dealt with exception” and closes the program. The program normally doesn’t catch the exception because the code to capture it wasn’t written in the first place by the programmer. The operating system generates a fatal error code which is displayed on the screen.

Fatal exception errors occur when access to an illegal instruction has taken place, invalid data or code has been accessed or the privilege level of an operation is invalid. The error is displayed in this format:

A fatal exception has occurred at xxxx:xxxxxxxx.

Here, XY refers to the processor exception which ranges from 00 to 0F. The xxx….code indicates the exact location of the exception error.

The causes of fatal exception errors are many. But the most common causes are erroneously written programs, damaged registry, RAM issues, heat associated problems or other hassles with hardware or software.

How to deal with Fatal Exception Errors:

Repairing a fatal exception error is slightly tricky on account of the number of possibilities associated with its cause. However, you can still try the following steps to take care of these errors.

  • Remove or unload any TSR’s or currently running programs.
  • Get rid of all temporary program files that may be housed on the hard disk drive from previously executed programs.
  • You can also try running a scan disk or perform a de-fragmentation on the hard disk drive since it could be possible that the swap files or the data files are corrupted due to a problem with the hard disk drive.
  • Try entering the CMOS of your computer and disabling the external cache. If you find that this gets rid of the error, it probably means that the issue is heat related.
  • Check if all the fans in your computer are functioning properly. If you have sufficient space, you can put in an extra fan.
  • If any element in your computer is overclocked, this can also trigger an error. You can resolve this by performing a Factory Restore on your computer.
  • Increasing the memory of your PC can also help if your computer is running out of space.
  • Uninstall and reinstall any newly installed software to make sure that this is not the causing the errors.
  • Errors can also occur due to defective memory. So if you’ve recently added to the memory, you can try removing it to check if this is causing the issue.
  • You can also try cleaning the registry since the registry is one of the key components of the operating system and sometimes gets cluttered because of old, obsolete and redundant files.

Fatal exception errors can cause havoc with your computer and are frustrating for the user. While these issues can be resolved you can prevent them by regularly scanning your system, cleaning the registry and basically just maintaining your computer as a whole.
